Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES)
Publication History
Publication Date:
01 October 2009 (online)

Introduction
The development and evaluation of the concept of natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) continues to arouse the interest of the medical scientific community, with a large number of abstracts being presented at this DDW 2009 session. Although the 2008 meeting saw a record number of submissions compared with the previous year, 2009 showed a slight decline. A search focusing on the word ”NOTES” came up with 85 abstracts, among which 60 (including 7 videos) had transluminal surgery as their actual subject.
In comparison with 2008 (Fig. 1), there is a noteworthy decrease in abstracts related to ”access and closure,” and only one presentation on training. It is noticeable that there is, surprisingly, only a slight increase in presentations on human application of NOTES.
