Abstract

An efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of Garcia Gonzalez polyhydroxyalkyl- and C-glycosylfurans in excellent yields from unprotected sugar aldoses with β-keto esters by Knoevenagel condensation in the presence of anhydrous iron(III) chloride.
