Das Verständnis der Entzündung in der Umwelt-ZahnMedizin

In der Zahnmedizin spielt die Entzündung eine herausragende Rolle. Die Gingivitis, die Parodontitis/Periimplantitis, aber auch materialinduzierte lokale und systemische Entzündungsreaktionen stellen klinische Probleme dar, mit denen sich jeder Zahnarzt täglich konfrontiert sieht. Die Tatsache, dass diese Erkrankungen nicht selten einen chronischen und therapieresistenten Verlauf nehmen, macht deutlich, dass es sich nicht um banale Infektionserkrankungen handelt, sondern dass immunologische Faktoren von überragender Bedeutung sind. Die moderne Immunologie stellt eine wichtige Grundlage für das Verständnis der chronischen Entzündungsreaktionen an allen Organen und Schleimhäuten unseres Organismus einschließlich der Mundhöhle dar.

Inflammation plays a key role in dental medicine. Gingivitis, periodontitis/periimplantitis as well as material-induced local and systemic inflammatory reactions display mayor clinical problems which dentists are confronted with in their daily routine. In contrast to more trivial infectious diseases the aforementioned disorders often show a chronic and therapy-resistant course which points out the importance and influence of immunological factors.

In this regard, modern immunology helps to understand the basic principles underlying the chronic inflammatory reactions in all organs and mucosa including the oral cavity.
