Innovations in Rhinosurgery
Publication History
Publication Date:
05 April 2013 (online)
Following the trend of specialization, rhinosurgery is increasingly developing into a relatively independent discipline. At the same time, it has an interdisciplinary character, which is also reflected in the presented articles.
The particular challenge of rhinosurgery is to simultaneously face functional and aesthetic aspects in conjunction with handling the very complex anatomical structures of the nasal framework.
There is constant progress concerning surgical techniques, which is the subject of many publications. However, this issue addresses technological and scientific advances in the context of rhinosurgery. The topic selection ranges from theoretical considerations regarding nasal physiology via results of experimental research to the presentation of tools that might be helpful in practicing nasal surgery. Some of the themes may not yet have direct implications on the daily work as they have to a certain extent the character of fundamental research. I hope that they will nevertheless be appreciated by the colleagues and readers.
Not least, one intention of this issue is to demonstrate the ongoing effort to accomplish a higher level of evidence-based medicine in functional and aesthetic rhinosurgery.
I would like to thank the authors for their contributions and Thieme Medical Publishers for their friendly and professional cooperation.
