Die Arthrose ist die häufigste Gelenkerkrankung. Es existiert jedoch bislang kein therapeutisches Verfahren, das die arthrotische Knorpeldegeneration aufhalten oder gar umkehren kann. Daher besteht das primäre Therapieziel in einer Schmerzreduktion. In diesem Artikel werden die Prinzipien und die Wertigkeiten der einzelnen Maßnahmen, deren Indikationen, Kontraindikationen und praktische Durchführung sowie ihre klinische Evidenz gemäß der aktuellen Datenlage detailliert besprochen. Abschließend werden experimentelle Therapieansätze kurz vorgestellt.
