Make Good Things Better

Founded in 1936 by the German Neurosurgeon Tönnis as “Zentralblatt für Neurochirurgie,” “Journal of Neurological Surgery—Central European Neurosurgery” is today the oldest neurosurgical journal still publishing.

The last two decades witnessed substantial changes in the scientific world, which did not allow us to continue publishing under the name “Zentralblatt of Neurochirurgie” without risking its existence. By publishing articles only in English and changing the name of the journal, further international visibility and acceptance with an increasing inflow of articles from all over the world was ensured. The next major step towards a truly international journal was the merger with “Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery” in 2012, which strongly enhanced the cutting-edge technology focus of the journal and opened the journal even further to contributions from North and South America and East Asia.

It is my aim to further anchor the “Journal of Neurological Surgery—Central European Neurosurgery” deeply in the worldwide neurosurgical community by speeding up the review and production process and obtaining a good impact factor. Interesting clinical and experimental research articles and, especially in neurosurgery, articles on new surgical techniques and technological innovations positively contribute to the impact factor, while case reports have a diluting effect. As a consequence, beginning in 2014, case reports will only be published in the “Journal of Neurological Surgery—Central European Neurosurgery” if they report truly unique cases, allowing us to increase the number of manuscripts concerning experimental and clinical research, surgical techniques, and innovations in each issue substantially. All other case reports should be submitted to our sister title “Journal of Neurological Surgery Reports (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jnls-report).”
