The first issue of 2017 of Journal of Wrist Surgery includes the “Special Review” entitled Kienböck Disease: New Algorithm of 21st Century described by Dr. Lichtman. This review approaches the mysterious Kienböck disease that still is “unrevealed” in terms of MR imaging, and arthroscopic diagnosis and treatment options. Interesting articles on the scapholunate problems, carpal boss, distal radius, dorsal radiocarpal joint capsule, and ulnar side wrist pain, are also included in this issue.

As the Editor-in-Chief of the journal I plan to work towards increasing submissions to the journal and aim to ensure that we publish only high-quality articles in the field of wrist surgery. In the year 2015, the journal had over 100 submissions including the special focus sections, original scientific papers, case reports, procedures, and letters to the editor. In 2016, the number of submissions increased by over 30% and we are pleased to see that this increase in submissions, is being matched by an increase in the quality of papers.
