Summary

The Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) is an intensive treatment program for individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and in Germany still quite unknown. Focus is on voice and specially on increased loudness, that triggers effort and coordination across all speech mechanisms. Beside improvement of voice function, there is evidence of improved intelligibility and swallowing. It also addresses increased sensory perception of vocal effort and loudness to facilitate carry-over into daily oral communication. LSVT has been extensively documented in the short and long term with the first level-one efficacy data for successfully treating voice and speech disorders in PD.
