Introduction:
Relationship between audiometric and caloric function in Meniere disease is a very
discussion topic. We have performed a tonal audiometry and caloric test measurment
to understand this corelation.
Methods:
A total of 123 patients diagnosed by Meniere's disease in KOHI seen between January
2009 to July 2017. The audiometric and VNG data were collected at the onset of the
disease.
As part of a diagnostic protocol is pure-tone and speech audiometry, VNG (bithermal
calorics) testing, Timpanometry (at onset of the disease, after 5 and 9 years), MRI,
CT scan.
Results:
The Study involve 123 cases examined during 9 year since onset the disease. 56 female.67
male, Average age 53. Vertigo and hearing loss fluctuation is compliant.
We finde a fluctuation of the threshold in 68% of cases. The mean threshold shift
for the 500 to 3000 Hz range was between 20 and 35 dB.
After 5 years, was observed; the pure-tone average (PTA) ranged between 20 and 40
dB in 50.2% and between 45 and 75 dB in 49.8% of cases.
After 9 years, in most cases (60%), a flat curve was observed, and the Pure tone audimetry
in 100% ranged between 35 and 70 dB.
The audiogram shape does not apper to play additional role in speech discrimination.
Discussion:
We fine a correlation between decline in hearing and vestibular function with time.
High-frequency involvement seemed to be related more to Meniere's disease duration
than to the influence of aging on hearing loss.
