Publication History
Publication Date:
27 November 2019 (online)
General objective:
to identify the factors associated with obstetric complications among the parturients admitted to the two maternity units of Conakry University Hospital.
Method:
This is a comparative study on the parturients received in the two reference maternities (3 rd level) of the two Ignace Deen and Donka National Hospitals of Conakry University Hospital from 1 September to 30 November 2014.
Results:
the frequency of obstetric complications at the arrival of parturients was 10.61%. These included placental posterior placenta hematoma, uterine rupture, hypertension and its complications, obstructed labor and chorioamnionitis.
The average age of parturients was 25.7 years with extremes of 15 and 45 years. Most female parturients were out of school (49.77%), housewives (38.14%), nulliparous (40.00%) and married women (79%). The determinants of complications were the advanced age of the mother (p < 0.001), the multiparity (p < 0.01), the lack of prenatal follow-up (p < 0.05), the means of transport used (p < 0.02) and obstetric evacuation (p < 0.001).
Conclusion:
advanced maternal age, multiparity, lack of antenatal care, transportation used, and obstetric evacuation were the main determinants of obstetric complications.
