This issue of Journal of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (JGAR) brings an interesting and informative collection of articles that are well presented with JGAR’s signature style of focused radiological images and diagrams to demonstrate the point in discussion.
In this issue, we have articles on small bowel Crohn’s disease. The first article by Raju et al discusses differentiation of Crohn’s disease from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) enteropathy concluding with some very specific and useful pointers.[1]
The second article by Muslim and Bagarhatta is a pictorial essay of differentiation between Crohn’s disease and tuberculosis on computed tomography (CT) enterography. The authors have provided a section on performing the CT procedure well which is a key to demonstrating the differences. The Tables on the procedure and differentiating points are especially useful.[2]
Another pair of articles on tumor response criteria in oncoimaging offer a detailed understanding of the RECIST criteria. The article by Rastogi et al in the part 1 discusses how to use the RECIST criteria concluding with a good set of take-home points.[3] Simultaneously Baheti et al in the part 2 further discuss various alternative response assessment criteria that can be used instead of RECIST in specific situations depending on the primary tumor, site of disease, and the chemotherapy regimen used.[4]
Further in the issue, imaging of abnormal air in the abdomen and pelvis by Sharma et al helps to familiarize the interpreting radiologist with the pathophysiology of these air collections, solve various diagnostic challenges, and avoid potential pitfalls.[5]
In this issue, we continue with our efforts of presenting current concepts for day-to-day practice, as well as exploring evolving concepts and approaches.
