Introduction Accepted risk factors for the development of HNSCC are smoking, alcohol and the human papilloma virus. Recent studies suggest that the microbiome has an impact on up to 20 %  of all cancer diseases. We assume that the microbiome of the different head and neck regions as well as of the healthy and cancer affected mucosa differs.

Methods We did an observational study at University Hospital Muenster in which we took intraoperative DNA-swipes of patients with differntly located HNSCC and of a healthy control group. Afterwords the microbiome was tested bei amplification and sequencing of the V1V2-regions of the microbial 16 S-rDNA.

Results From 08/2018 til 09/2020 we took 185 DNA- swipes at University Hospital Münster from patient’s mucosa of different localisations. Those swipes include 107 patients with HNSCC and 78 patients in the control group. The paranasal sinus are populated bei corynebacterium and dolosigranulum whereas the laryngeal and oropharyngeal mucosa is populated by streptococcus, prevotella and fusobacterium. Comparing the microbiome of the different localisations we see a significant difference. We did not see an significant difference between the microbiome of cancer and control group yet.

Discussion Our results show that the microbiome differs depending on the different localisation of HNSCC and we could already assign different bacteria to the different localisations. Finally we could not show a difference between cancer an control group yet.
