Farzan F. Bahin et al. Prophylactic clipping for the prevention of bleeding following
wide-field endoscopic mucosal resection of laterally spreading colorectal lesions:
an economic modeling study
The authors of the Australian Colonic Endoscopic Mucosal Resection Study performed
an economic assessment regarding the cost-effectiveness of clip closure of the mucosal
defect after resection of nonpedunculated polyps ≥ 20 mm. Even when considering a
high efficacy to prevent bleeding, the cost of clips would make prophylactic application
prohibitive. Varying the number of clips applied across reasonable assumptions also
did not change the results. In the applied model, a clip price of € 10 or less would
make this practice cost-effective.
