Robert S. Kerrison et al. Improving uptake of flexible sigmoidoscopy screening: a
randomized trial of nonparticipant reminders in the English Screening Programme
This study examines the impact of a mailed reminder to attend colorectal cancer screening
with sigmoidoscopy. A reminder designed to address barriers to screening was more
effective than a standard reminder letter or no reminder (15 % vs. 10 % vs. 0 %).
Reminders improved screening uptake in both former non-attenders and nonresponders,
with those not responding previously being less likely to participate.
