Die hepatische Enzephalopathie (HE) ist eine häufige und folgenschwere Komplikation v. a. der Leberzirrhose: Bei Auftreten einer HE liegt definitionsgemäß eine dekompensierte Leberzirrhose vor und die Prognose der Patienten verschlechtert sich deutlich. Der Beitrag fasst das aktuelle Wissen über die HE zusammen mit dem Schwerpunkt auf der Therapie der verschiedenen Typen und Schweregrade der HE.
