The Third Issue of the First Volume with Thieme Publishing
This is the third issue with the new publishing company (Thieme Medical Publishers). My apologies for the delay in the issues construction and the time it took to complete the transfer process. At the same time, I am grateful for the current service and hope to consuming serving our authors and readers with great attention to detail. We are still in need of more manuscripts that reflect the current human and basic science research from Africa and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions.
Research in both areas is still facing significant challenges, and authors are striving for financial and moral support. It is a continuing problem in developing countries. Basic research ethics, the number of research ethics committees, and proper funding are among the reasons for the lack of high-quality basic and clinical research from Africa and the MENA regions. The journal is committed to continuing support and help of authors and reviews from developing countries.
In this issue, there are a few interesting contributions. The first one is a review article from Iran (Seyed Ehsan Alavian et al) that dealt with the effect of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on liver enzymes. It is a ubiquitous virus in the organs it may injure, and the liver is one of them. This narrative review summarizes some of the current literature on the topic. There are four original articles in the current issue. Three are clinical, and the last one is laboratory-based research. Characteristics and antibiotics susceptibility patterns of diabetic foot infection in a regional hospital in Benghazi, Libya, are presented by Eldukali and Boshaalla. Also, the clinical score application for abdominopelvic computed tomography when used in the diagnosis of renal colic patients is presented by Gönüllü et al. Furthermore, Uzair et al report the knowledge, awareness, and practices among the Pakistani population regarding COVID-19 using an online survey. And finally, Udeozor et al report the antioxidant and anti-anemic effects of ethanol leaf extracts of Mucuna poggei and Telfairia occidentalis in phenyl-hydrazine-induced anemia in Wistar albino rats.
The issue finishes with a very interesting image quiz using a gastric mucosa biopsy from a 10-year-old child with a history of iron deficiency anemia presented with abdominal pain presented by Kahwash and Altawil. I wish you very good luck with it.
The editorial team is working hard to keep the journal issues on time, and the first is a great option for authors who need to cite or use their work for administrative and promotion concerns. Thanks again to all of you who donate your money and time to keep the journal and its high standards for research publications.
