Craig A. Reickert, MD, MBA, FACS, FASCRS



Dr. Craig A. Reickert is a staff Colon and Rectal Surgeon and Clinical Professor of Surgery at Michigan State University, College of Medicine, in East Lansing, MI. A two-time guest editor for Clinics, Craig was born in Michigan, received his undergraduate and Medical School training at the University of Michigan, and subsequently performed his General Surgery Residency training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He even went back to Ann Arbor to complete a Surgical Critical Care and ECMO fellowship, prior to leaving the great state and completing his Colon and Rectal Surgery Residency training at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, LA. Following this, he ventured back to MI, where he has risen through the ranks at Henry Ford Hospital, currently serving as the Associate Program Director (PD) for the General Surgery Residency and Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship, Director of the Center for Simulation, Education and Research, Division Head of Colorectal Surgery, and Vice-Chair of Clinical Operations. Despite all these responsibilities, he received his MBA at the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee.
Craig is a busy clinician and academic surgeon, as well as an active researcher. He has been very involved in medical student and resident education. In addition to being the PD for the fellowship, on a national level he has served as the Vice-President of the Association of Program Directors of Colon and Rectal Surgery, President of the Michigan Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Executive Council member for American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Governor-at-large for the American College of Surgeons, and multiple other societies both locally and nationally.
Craig and his wife, Eileen, have 3 sons. He enjoys mentoring high school robotics teams, soccer, tae kwon do, and traveling with friends.
