With our traditional January Editorial and Editors' Choice,[1] we are delighted to welcome you in the New Year! May it be filled with fresh challenges and developments!

Along with our personal and scientific lives, we noted for the first time since 2020 that publications in 2023 clearly moved away from the pandemic scope.[1] While we were relieved to be able to live our lives “normally” again, and were excited to meet our community at meetings, we have learnt along the way. Our Editorial Meeting has now moved to a digital format, allowing more of our Section Editors around the world to take part at the same time and achieve a more productive outcome, while Elinor Switzer from the publisher's team was delighted to meet and catch up with you at the ISTH Thieme Booth last year ([Fig. 1]).

Impact Factor

We are pleased that our Impact Factor has remained stably high at 6.7 for 2022 even in the postpandemic era and did not experience the same drop as many other cardiovascular or thrombosis journals, reflecting our efforts toward a balanced approach in topic selection and commitment to prioritizing scientific quality over quantity. Our open access companion journal, TH Open, has also continued to grow, featuring reliable submissions and high-quality publications, some of which were transferred from its parent journal, Thrombosis & Haemostasis ([Fig. 2]).

Section Editors

Welcoming new international, multidisciplinary Section Editors underlines our commitment to opening our editorial team to new horizons. We are looking forward to working with our new Editorial Board members Behnood Bikdeli, Sandra Ortega-Martorell, Daniele Pastori, and Giulio Francesco Romiti this year.

Concurrently, we bid farewell to our retiring Section Editors, Walter Ageno, Lina Badimon, Francesco Bernardi, Christoph Bode, Triantafyllos Chavakis, Bernd Engelmann, Ben Freedman, Pablo García de Frutos, Samuel Goldhaber, Tilman Hackeng, Emilio Hirsch, Kurt Huber, Bernd Jilma, Thomas Kietzmann, Steen Dalby Kristensen, Christine Mannhalter, Leonid Medved, Andrew Murphy, Shosaku Nomura, Klaus T. Preissner, Mauro Torti, David Varon, and Johann Wojta, extending our heartfelt gratitude for their dedicated contributions to the journal. Some have been long-standing dedicated Section Editors, occasionally for more than a decade (!), and it is with some sadness that we say goodbye.

We also want to express our gratitude to our esteemed reviewers, and highlight the exceptional efforts of our top reviewers in 2023: Giulio F. Romiti, Daniele Pastori, Jerrold Levy, Nicola Mumoli, and Frederikus Klok.

New Developments

We are very pleased with the journal's new appearance displaying the now mandatory visual summaries. Amidst the flood of information characterized by our modern era, identifying the most relevant or valuable content may prove challenging. These graphical abstracts make it easier to rapidly grasp the essence of an article and should encourage readers to explore the entire content more readily. Additionally, these visual summaries facilitate information sharing on social media platforms. Using the designated sharing option ([Fig. 3]) allows you to automatically include a card featuring the visual summary alongside a direct link to the article to your social media of choice. This process enhances the visibility and accessibility of the article on social media channels. We very much encourage you to take advantage of it!.

For this year, we plan to include additional State-of-the-Art Review articles, Clinical Perspectives, and Executive Summaries of Guidelines and Position papers, following the well-received examples from the previous years.[2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

As a final note, we would like to mention that we were delighted to have Stefanie Kern-Matschilles with us at the TH Editorial Office last year. Her time with us is greatly appreciated, and while we are sad to see her leave, our hearts are full of gratitude for her contributions. On behalf of the entire Editorial team including Stefanie Kern-Matschilles (Munich), as well as the publishing team with Elinor Switzer (Stuttgart) and Regina Wenzel (Stuttgart), we want to express our deepest gratitude to you, our readers, for the continued and unwavering trust and support. With our dedicated team of Section Editors and Reviewers, we commit ourselves to providing efficient turnarounds, high-quality peer reviews, and maintaining a prominent presence for your work in our journal. We wish you a successful and productive year ahead!
