It is our great pleasure to revive and present to you Volume 8, Issue 2 of the International Journal of Epilepsy (IJEP). Due to some glitches, the release of the current issue, originally due in the second half of 2022, was delayed. But with our renewed team and revitalized enthusiasm, we intend to scale the gap swiftly and bring to you the excellent scientific work of our contributors from across the globe.
In this issue, the neuropharmacological review by Dr Jefry Stephan et al discusses the antisense molecules targeted for epilepsy and their progress in epilepsy therapeutics. The knowledge and use of these principles can guide precision therapies in drug-refractory epilepsies.
In their study on the reproductive health of women with epilepsy in India, Dr AN Sunil Kumar et al highlight increased menstrual problems and lesser knowledge of contraceptive methods in women with epilepsy as compared with healthy controls. This information is very important to raise awareness and seek remedial measures for these issues.
Dr Siriporn Tiamkao et al from Thailand present the efficacy of generic intravenous levetiracetam in pediatric status epilepticus in their region with low side effects. Carol D'Souza et al from Mumbai, India explore the factors that help or hinder the prospects of employment in people with epilepsy and cite low seizure frequency and later onset of epilepsy as facilitating factors, whereas high job stress and cognitive and emotional difficulties as barriers for work. Further, we also present two interesting case vignettes on lithium toxicity and brivaracetam-induced behavioral changes to highlight the lesser-known adverse effects of medications.
We hope to enthuse the readers with newer insights and research ideas in epilepsy, its impact, and related therapeutic advances. We appreciate the efforts of Dr Sanjib Sinha and his editorial team in shaping the previous issues and working toward the journal's progress. We also thank the untiring efforts of our reviewers who help us bring forth the scientific content to our readers. We would like to express our gratitude to Thieme Publications for their dedication and hard work in compiling this issue.
