GI-Interventional Oncology—Cholangiocarcinoma
Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare, aggressive biliary tract malignancy with historically poor prognosis. Overall survival rates at 5 years are reported at approximately 20%. However, the advent of novel treatment strategies may promise improved outcomes. We are pleased to present this special issue of Digestive Disease Interventions, focusing on the contemporary treatment of cholangiocarcinoma via a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
The review articles featured in this issue will address a wide breadth of treatment modalities including targeted drug therapy, radiation therapy, percutaneous and endoscopic ablation, and transarterial liver-directed therapy. Additionally, this edition examines the role of surgery with a focus on liver transplantation and minimally invasive management of postoperative complications. Lastly, this issue also highlights the importance of maintaining quality of life for these patients with a review of palliative interventions.
We offer our most sincere gratitude to the contributing authors for their exceptional work and expertise shared within these articles. We also extend our deepest thanks to the editor-in-chief, Dr. Kapoor, for providing us with the opportunity to serve as guest editors for this special issue.
