MSK Ultrasound
This issue covers the importance of ultrasound (US) in the diagnosis of arthritis, degenerative and inflammatory disorders, sports traumas and overuse, and postoperative assessment. These articles can greatly improve radiology practices, offering the most accurate and current updates on US. The articles were written by expert members of the Ultrasound Subcommittee of the European Society of Skeletal Radiology.
The first article by Tjaša Tomažin and collaborators from Slovenia discusses the diagnostic criteria for carpal tunnel syndrome and focuses on the new tools available. Then the assessment of groin pain by US is covered in great detail by the radiologists of Clinique du Sport of Bordeaux, France, and Gilles Reboul, visceral surgeon.
Franck Lapegue and his colleagues from Toulouse, France, authored two articles on common injuries such as epicondylitis and finger tendon tears, using detailed anatomy with dissections and descriptions of common and uncommon US patterns.
Another key topic is nerve disorders assessment, reviewed by Thomas Le Corroller from Marseille, France. Then postoperative and iatrogenic peripheral nerve lesions are described by Elena Drakonaki et al. Jean-Baptiste Pialat and his French colleagues, using a multidisciplinary approach, outline the US features of biceps brachial tendon tears before and after surgery.
Siddharth Thaker, Lionel Pesquer, and Winston J. Rennie describe the role of US in the diagnosis of foot lesions for patients with spondyloarthropathies. In his update, Raphaël Guillin from Rennes, France, and his collaborators explain the role of US in managing skin and subcutaneous tissue lesions by describing the main patterns when using this modality.
Finally, Benjamin Dallaudière and his colleagues review the anatomy, operative techniques, and US interpretation in the postsurgical evaluation of ankle instability.
I would like to thank the authors for their hard work and contributions to this issue, as well as the editors and editorial team at Seminars in Musculoskeletal Radiology, for providing us with this opportunity to write and publish these articles.
