ABSTRACT

The life, education, and contributions of E. Létiévant are reviewed. He first observed esthesiography, protopathic sensibility, and the ``tingling sign'' in peripheral-nerve lesions toward the end of the 19th century. His thoughts and language still remain familiar to us, and his work conveys a poignant freshness.
