Amberlyst ^® 15 as a Mild, Chemoselective and Reusable Heterogeneous Catalyst for the Conversion of Carbonyl Compounds to 1,3-Oxathiolanes

Abstract

The synthesis of 1,3-oxathiolanes from carbonyl compounds has been performed in good yields using Amberlyst^®15 as a convenient, reusable, heterogeneous catalyst. The procedure can be applied for the chemoselective protection of aldeydes in the presence of a ketone function. In addition, Amberlyst^®15 can be recycled without loss of activity and can be even employed in the regeneration of carbonyl group.
