Abstract
The topical anti-inflammatory activity of Haplophyllum hispanicum Spach is due to the presence of arylnaphthalene-type lignans acting as 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) inhibitors. The effects of the methanolic extract of this species on cellular systems have been determined by HPLC-DAD analysis. Diphyllin acetylapioside proved to be the main lignan endowed with 5-LOX inhibitory activity.
