For this issue of Clinics in Colon and Rectal Surgery, I am very pleased to have two Guest Editors from other surgical specialties who manage organ systems and diseases of importance to colon and rectal surgeons.

Dr. G. Willy Davila is the Chairman of the Department of Gynecology and the head of the section of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Florida, Weston, FL. Willy was born in Minneapolis, MN, and received an M.D. degree from the University of Texas Medical School, Houston, TX. His Gynecology and Obstetrics residency was conducted at the University of Colorado in Denver, CO, and he performed a Gynecology Urology Clinical Preceptorship at the Long Beach Memorial Hospital, University of California, Irvine, CA. After several years of academic and clinical practice in Denver, CO, Dr. Davila joined the staff at the Cleveland Clinic Florida in 1999.

In addition to a busy clinical practice, Dr. Davila is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Female Urinary Incontinence and the International Urogynecology Journal, and serves as a reviewer for Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has published more than 24 peer-reviewed articles and multiple book chapters on urinary and gynecologic subjects. He is a member of multiple medical societies. Willy currently lives in Pompano Beach, FL. Although South Florida has much to offer, he misses the outdoor activities he enjoyed in Colorado.

Dr. Gamal M. Ghoniem currently serves as head of the section of Female Urology, Voiding Dysfunction and Reconstruction at the Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston, FL. Gamal was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and received an M.B., Ch.B. from the University of Alexandria, in Alexandria, Egypt. His urology residency was conducted at Alexandria Main University Hospital, followed by a fellowship in the Department of Surgery (Urology) at Roger Williams General Hospital, Brown University Affiliated Hospital, in Providence, RI. Dr. Ghoniem also completed a residency in urology (Department of Surgery) at the University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI. He spent 13 years at Tulane University, where he became a professor of urology in 1998. He joined Cleveland Clinic Florida in July 2000.

Dr. Ghoniem has authored many peer-reviewed papers, videos, book chapters, and abstracts in the field. He is a member of several professional societies, including the American Urogynecology Society, American Urological Association, Society of Urodynamics and Female Urology, International Urogynecology Association, and the International Continence Society. He serves as an editor, reviewer, or consultant to several journals, including the Journal of Urology, Urology, Journal of International Urogynecology, and the Journal of Neurology and Urodynamics.

Gamal and his wife Magda live in Weston, FL, while his two children, Ashraf and Nina, attend college. He likes reading and travel, and is an avid soccer fan.

On behalf of the readers and staff of Clinics of Colon and Rectal Surgery, I thank Drs. Davila and Ghoniem for serving as Guest Editors and for providing us with a comprehensive review of gynecology and urology for the colorectal surgeon.
