Zusammenfassung
Die Endoprothese des Ellenbogens hat sich in der Behandlung der rheumatoiden Arthritis etabliert. Dank neuer Prothesendesigns und verfeinerter Operationstechniken werden heute mit Knie- und Hüftprothesen vergleichbare Resultate auch am Ellenbogen erzielt. Komplikationen nach Ellenbogenprothese sind allerdings häufiger. Eine klare Indikationsstellung im Rahmen der interdisziplinären Betreuung der Rheumapatienten ist somit unabdingbar um das Risiko-Nutzen-Verhältnis für Patient, wie auch für den Operateur, gering zu halten.
Abstract
Total elbow arthroplasty has become a viable and established treatment option in rheumatoid arthritis. Total elbow replacement by experienced surgeons employing contemporary prosthetic designs and advanced surgical techniques has a high degree of success approaching that for total hip and knee replacement, but still shows a higher complication rate. This mandates a clear interdisciplinary indication with a thorough understanding of the functional limitations and extent of polyarticular involvement to keep the risk-benefit ratio low for patient and surgeon.
