Evolution in Techniques: Personal Perspectives
Publication History
Publication Date:
02 March 2007 (online)
I am honored and pleased to serve as the guest editor for this issue of Facial Plastic Surgery. This issue, Evolution in Techniques: Personal Perspectives, is intended to describe the changes in selected surgeons' techniques over time and, more importantly, address how this evolution occurred. As members of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we are collectively recognized as experts in the field of facial plastic surgery, and with this recognition comes responsibility. Our responsibility to our patients is to continue to evolve and incorporate new techniques. Those who have trained us expect this from us, as they also continue to modify and improve their techniques. This format brings together facial plastic surgeons with up to 10 years of experience, with their fellowship directors, to compare and contrast the evolution of techniques in their practices. Hopefully these personal perspectives will help all surgeons, but especially those who are early in their careers, develop methods to assimilate the vast array of new medical information present in our specialty.
