Tellington-TTouch und Konditionierung bei Giraffen

Zusammenfassung

Giraffenpfleger des Oakland-Zoos haben ein Trainingsprogramm ent-wickelt, das die traditionelle operante Konditionierung mit Elementen der Tellington-TTouch-Methode kombiniert. Dadurch wurde es möglich, den Giraffen routinemäßig und ohne Zwangsmaßnahmen Blut abzunehmen, Akupunkturnadeln zu setzen, Massagen, Röntgen- und Ultraschall-untersuchungen durchzuführen. TTouch hat zu einer Verbesserung der Pfleger-Tier-Beziehung geführt und sich als effektives Werkzeug im Rah- men der Schmerztherapie erwiesen.

Summary

Zookeepers of the Oakland Zoo developed a training method for giraffes that combines the traditional operant conditioning with elements of the Tellington-TTouch-method. Thus it was possible to take blood samples routinely and without compulary measure, to acupuncture and to massage the giraffes and to take X-rays and ultrasonic testings. TTouch improved the keeper-animal-relationship and proved to be an effective tool in pain therapy.
