Dr. Soad Bosseri passed away on 14.2.2019 following a long struggle with cancer. Soad was born on 21.7.1958. She graduated from the Medical School of Tripoli University in 1982. After her internship, Soad joined the endocrine department working under the supervision of Professor Ibrahim Sherif in Tripoli Central Hospital for several years. Following this, she moved to the United Kingdom for further training. She started as a senior house officer and progressed to a registrar in the Merseyside and Midlands where she acquired her MRCP (UK), Diploma of Tropical Medicine, Diploma of Geriatric Medicine, and MSc in Endocrinology. Dr. Bosseri moved to Brunei working in diabetes for a few years before returning home till her retirement due to ill health.
Soad Bosseri was a very keen learner, astute clinician, and strong patient advocate. She was well known for her campaigns and trips to remote parts of her country to provide hands on diabetes services. When she took over the directorship of the diabetes clinic, her contagious enthusiasm, constant presence, and her keenness to develop the possible diabetes care under the conflict circumstances were very evident. Her research varied from reporting the prevalence of diabetes in the oasis of Ghadames, characterizing Sheehan's syndrome in the Tripoli cohort, and auditing diabetes care in Tripoli to use of the traditional medicines by people with diabetes.
“Doctora Soad” has dedicated her life to the service of people with diabetes. Her death was a great loss to the medical and diabetes community. She will be remembered by many of her patients, students, and colleagues.
