Tandem double Michael and electrophilic enolate trapping processes executed with diethyl (R,R)-4,5-bis(tert-butyldimethylsiloxy-2,6-octadienedioate [(R,R)-1] exclusively afforded cyclized product 3 in high yield. Optically pure highly functionalized cyclopentane 4 and 2-cyclopenten-1-one 5 derivatives have been prepared therefrom.
