Borohydride Exchange Resin (BER) - nickel acetate system readily reduces both aliphatic and aromatic nitro compounds to the corresponding amino compounds in excellent yields in methanol. This system tolerates hydroxymethyl, phenol, methoxy, acetal, acetyl, carboxylic acid, ester, cyano and halogen (Cl and Br) substituents on the benzene ring.
