Radical reactions have become, during the last fifteen years, a very important and useful alternative to ionic and pericyclic processes. 1-Amino- and 1-amidoalkyl radicals have attracted the interest of synthetic organic chemists for the synthesis of a wide range of nitrogen-containing products for the synthesis of a wide range of nitrogen-containing products of biological interest such as alkaloids, amino acids and peptides. The different ways of generating such radicals is presented, followed by a discussion of the stereoselectivity of their reactions. Finally, applications in the field of EPC synthesis using chiral auxiliary or chiral templates are displayed.
