Laparoscopic Management of a Paraesophageal Hernia with Intrathoracic Stomach in Infants

Summary
Paraesophageal hernia type III in which the stomach lies in the thorax is a rare condition in children. Recently two children presented with a large type III paraesophageal hernia with an intrathoracic stomach. The stomach could be retrieved from the thorax laparoscopically and the procedure was completed with a Thal antireflux procedure.
Résumé
La hernie para-œsophagienne de type III avec l'estomac intra-thoracique est rare chez l'enfant. Récemment deux enfants se sont présentés avec une lésion de ce type. L'estomac a pu être extrait du thorax par laparoscopie et l'intervention a été complété par un procédé antireflux de Thal.
Resumen
La hernia paraesofágico tipo III en la que el estómago es intratorácico es rara en niños. Recientemente hemos observado dos casos de hernia paraesofágica tipo II con estómago intratorácico en lactantes. El estómago pudo ser extraído laparoscópicamente del tórax completando la reparación con una funduplicatura de Thal.
Zusammenfassung
Eine paraösophageale Hernie Typ III, bei der der Magen in den Thorax verlagert ist, findet sich im Kindesalter sehr selten. Zwei Kinder mit einem solchen Defekt werden vorgestellt. Laparoskopisch konnte der Magen aus dem Thorax in die Bauchhöhle zurückverlagert und eine Thalsche Antirefluxoperation angeschlossen werden.
