Mélissa Gruner et al. Narrow-band imaging versus Lugol chromoendoscopy for esophageal squamous cell cancer screening in normal endoscopic practice: randomized controlled trial

Narrow-band imaging (NBI) was compared with Lugol chromoendoscopy for the detection of esophageal squamous carcinoma (SCC) and high grade dysplasia in 334 patients with a history of SCC of the upper aerodigestive tract. In this randomized trial, specificity for detection of lesions was greater with NBI than with Lugol. This outcome may have been affected by the use of white-light endoscopy prior to NBI; however, this is compatible with normal endoscopy practice.
