Insulinwirkung im Gehirn als Regulator des Stoffwechsels

Das Gehirn wurde lange als insulinunabhängiges Organ angesehen, da Insulin die Glukoseaufnahme in Neurone nicht beeinflusst. Mit dem Nachweis von Insulinrezeptoren im Gehirn [1] rückte die Aufklärung der Wirkung von Insulin im Gehirn jedoch in das Interesse der Forschung. Erste Ergebnisse aus Tierexperimenten zeigen eine Verringerung der Nahrungsaufnahme sowie des Körpergewichts nach direkter Verabreichung von Insulin ins Gehirn [2]. Auch beim Menschen beeinflusst Insulin die Gehirnaktivität mit metabolischen und kognitiven Auswirkungen auf den Körper, welche beispielsweise die Nahrungsauswahl, das Belohnungssystem, Gedächtnis und den peripheren Stoffwechsel betreffen [3].
