Introduction

Persistent sciatic artery (PSA) is a relatively infrequent congenital anatomical malformation. The sciatic arteries, affiliated branches of internal iliac artery, serve as the primary blood supply to the developing fetal lower limbs in the first trimester of pregnancy. They usually regress and the blood supply to the lower limbs is completely replaced by the femoral artery after those first 3 months. However, when the development of the femoral artery is incomplete, the sciatic arteries may persist, resulting in PSA. Here, we report on a patient with bilateral PSA complicated by aneurysm thrombosis and distal embolization.
