Abstract

Although every paediatric occupational therapist would recognise a child with gross- or fine- motor coordination difficulties, the term Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is less well-known in German-speaking countries. Often trivialised, DCD is a disorder with long-term consequences for the child and his/her family. This article aims to (1) present the results of a literature review of international studies on DCD to which German–language therapists might not otherwise have access, (2) describe the impact of the condition on the child’s development and participation in meaningful life roles, and (3) indicate where more research is needed.
