Introduction

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a rare conjunctival tumour demonstrating locally aggressive behaviour, composed of cells with squamous differentiation and cells with mucin production. This tumour was initially described in the salivary glands, these being most frequently involved. It has also been described in the lungs and, more rarely, in the nasal mucosa. Involvement of the conjunctiva is rare with less than thirty cases reported up to date to the best of our knowledge. Intraocular invasion is not uncommon and has been documented in several cases [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6].

We present here an unsuspected mucoepidermoid carcinoma with intraocular extension, with an unusually long clinical presentation where the diagnosis was determined histopathologically only after evisceration.
