This second special celebratory issue of Seminars in Thrombosis & Hemostasis is dedicated to the memory of all preceding pioneers within the field of hemostasis and thrombosis as well as to the many mentors who have over the many past years helped to develop the emerging talent in the field.

In mirror of the first celebratory issue published earlier this year,[1] although I do not wish to offend anyone by omission, I would personally identify the following for special mention:

  • Eberhard F. Mammen (1930–2008)[2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

  • Jerry Koutts (1944–2013)[7]

  • John Viner Lloyd (1939–2012)[8]

  • Silvia Pierangeli (1955–2013)[9]

  • Ronald A. Asherson (1934–2008)[10]

  • Barry Firkin (1930–2001)[11]

  • Ted Zimmerman (1937–1988)[11]

  • Rodger L. Bick (1943–2008)[12] [13]

  • Douglas A. Triplett (1943–2013)[14]

  • Lothar Bernd Zimmerhackl (1952–2010).[15]
