In 1940 Gohr and Wedekind were the first to attempt to use ultrasound for clinical diagnostics – admittedly without relevant results. 2 years later Dussik published a scanning technique through the skull, which he called “hyperphonography”. This procedure proved to be erroneous, however, as the displayed figures showed no equivalent to anatomical structures.
