Summary

1. Destruction of platelets by glass and fixation of platelets by Amberlite IR 100 was studied.

2. A clear difference was established between platelets in whole blood, without anticoagulant and platelets in native plasma. Almost no platelets were destroyed or retained when in native plasma.

3. Male platelets in native plasma were clearly more resistant than female platelets in native plasma.

4. Differences were observed at different periods of the menstrual cycle.

5. Native male plasmas, very rich in platelets did not change in number after contact with glass or after passage through Amberlite IR 100. Thus calcium influenced neither destruction, nor fixation of platelets by resin.
