The field of interventional radiology (IR) continues to grow necessitating the development of a rapidly expanding variety of tools and devices. Given the scope of the interventional armamentarium, it is essential that trainees be intimately familiar with the basic tools at their disposal and understand the appropriate situations in which to deploy them. In addition to operator's comfort, thorough knowledge of the “back table” is a known factor in mitigating poor outcomes.[1] [2] Despite this, there is a general paucity of resources detailing the variety of options and use cases available for various vascular catheters. Apart from special-use models, a majority of physician familiarity with catheters is obtained on the job. Herein, we aim to provide a “big-picture” view of vascular catheters used in day-to-day practice.
