A new coupling procedure between 5-iodouracil and unsaturated tributylstannanes, to give 5-(1-alkenyl)-, 5-(2-phenyl-ethynyl)- and 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)uracils, is described. The reaction was optimized with respect to the palladium ligand, whereby tri(2-furyl)phosphine, together with triphenylarsine, were found to be the best ligands. This coupling can be extended to uridine derivatives.
