A new method for synthesizing 1,3-dithiopropenes 4 [1,3-bis(cyclohexyl/methyl/phenylthio)-1-alkenes] is achieved by the reaction of αβ-unsaturated aldehydes 5 or their corresponding acetals 1 with thiostannanes 2 [Bu2Sn(SR)2, where R = cyclohexyl, methyl or phenyl] in the presence of dibutyltin bis(trifluoromethanesulfonate).
