Selective oxidative cleavage of benzyl ethers versus benzyl esters [for example in benzyl 4-benzyloxybenzoate (2)], and cleavage of benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal and phenylacetaldehyde dimethyl acetal is reported with dimethyldioxirane.
