The lithium diisopropylamide-potassium tert-butoxide induced isomerization of β-alkoxy substituted epoxides 1 occurs regio- and stereoselectively affording γ-hydroxyenol ethers 2. The latter compounds can be hydrolyzed to protected aldols or α,β-unsaturated aldehydes.
