Acyclic α-sulfinyl radicals exhibit high diastereoselectivity in intermolecular as well as interamolecular addition reactions to C=C double bonds. Hydroxylic solvents such as alcohols cause either a loss of diastereoselectivity or have a minor effect as observed in the latter case.
