Semicyclic pyranose-derived dienes are readily available via Stille coupling of the corresponding 2-(tri-n-butylstannyl)glucal with a variety of vinyl halides. Diels-Alder reactions of the derived dienes with Cookson’s reagent exhibit good levels of facial selectivity.
