The synthesis of cationic phospholipids (CP) by neutralization of the negative charge of the phosphodiester moiety is described. It involves esterification of the remaining P-O- linkage of the phospholipid by reaction with substituted sulfochlorides in the presence of C1-C4 alcohols.
