Tuning the reactivity of glycosyl donors, by selective introduction of different protecting and leaving groups, in conjunction with the principle of orthogonal activation enabled highly efficient oligosaccharide synthesis. One-pot sequential glycosidation of four or five components gave tetrasaccharides and pentasaccharides respectively.
